Skinner Shows Speed Throughout Short Track Nationals

Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Oct. 8, 2019) – Marshall Skinner raced about as well as possible without making the A Main during each night of the 32nd annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tires last weekend at I-30 Speedway.

Skinner missed transferring into Friday night’s A Main by one position after advancing to a fourth-place finish in a B Main. On Saturday, he appeared to be locked into the main event while running the final lap of his qualifier when contact from another car ended his evening.

“It was kind of a frustrating weekend because I had a great car,” he said. “There are a lot of variables and it takes some luck to make the A Main in this event with all the cars.

“The most frustrating race was Saturday’s qualifier. I felt like a ping-pong ball out there. We had a yellow during the race and I went quite a ways before slowing down. Then I got hit by a guy still going wide open, way after the yellow came out. It got my rear bumper and crushed in my fuel cell. But I was able to continue and was running in a position that would get me into the A Main. On the final lap, the same guy tried a slider on me. The car in front of me almost spun out so I checked up and the guy throwing the slider took out my front end.”

Skinner raced from seventh to fourth in his heat race on Friday, but a disappointing run in his qualifier relegated him into a B Main. His night ended with a fourth-place run in the consolation race.

“While I missed transferring to the A Main by one spot on Friday, that was kind of self-inflicted,” he said. “You pretty much need to pass cars in every race and I backed up in the qualifier. I just overdrove the car.

“The good thing was that right after the B Main, I grabbed Derek (Hagar) and told him he needed to make changes to his car and free it up before the A Main because the track was rubbered up. We made a bunch of changes to his car and then he went out and won the A Main.”

On-track frustrations aside, Skinner had an enjoyable weekend at I-30 Speedway.

“We went there to do some racing, cook out, drink some beer and have fun with friends – and that’s what we did,” he said. “So it was a good weekend.”

Skinner also wants to recognize some who assisted him at the track on Friday.

“I arrived at the track by myself on Friday since my wife and kids had a ballgame to go to,” he said. “I just wanted to thank Jeff and Landon Britt for their help at the track that night.”

Skinner is slated to return to action this Friday and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., during the Fall Nationals Flip Flop 50 with the USCS Series.
