Williamson Debuting as ASCS National Tour Rookie Driver This Weekend in Arizona
Inside Line Promotions – COLUMBIA, Mo. (Feb. 24, 2020) – A journey west kicks off a busy season for Garet Williamson, who is a rookie contender on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
Williamson, who is driving for Bryant Paver, opens the season this Friday and Saturday at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. It marks his first time competing outside of the Midwest.
“Our goal is to make the show and run consistent laps,” he said. “I want to learn as much as possible and be consistent, not try to go out there and be a hero.
“I like going to new tracks. It’s something different and you have to be on your game. You have to watch the track. All the tracks we ran at at the end of last year were new tracks for us and every time we hit the track we got faster.”
Williamson and Paver created the team late last year and tackled seven ASCS-sanctioned races. Williamson’s best ASCS National Tour performance was a 16th-place result on Oct. 12 during the Fall Fling at Creek County Speedway in Sapulpa, Okla. His top sprint car result was a 10th-place finish with the ASCS Warrior Region on Oct. 5 at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo.
“Earning Rookie of the Year is our big goal this year,” he said. “You have to be on your game every night. It starts in the heat race. You can’t go backward. You have to always be going forward and every lap matters. You can’t be sleeping. We have to be ready to go from the start this Friday.”
