Covington Comes Home 4th In ASCS National Points to Close Out a Successful 2017 Season

CG Motorsports- GLENPOOL, OK. (November 20, 2017) Matt Covington closed out a successful 2017 season at Cocopah with a 4th place finish in the ASCS National points that entailed a win, followed by many impressive top-5 runs.

“I’d say the best moment of this year was the win in Washington,” stated Covington. “We started off decent and made some points early with some good runs in the top-10. We were pretty consistent through most of the summer. We even had a stretch of fifteen top-10s at one point, I think. That, along with the win, really defined our year. The only real negative of the season was around the month of August and Knoxville where we didn’t do so well.”

The season started to turn back around for Covington when he picked up a top-5 run at Smokey Mountain Speedway to close out August. After some strong finishes during the next few months, Covington was back in the points hunt with a shot at third going into the final weekend of Cocopah. Despite a wing failure due to a huge mud clod, Covington battled hard to stay in contention but wound up few points short, coming home with 4th place in the 2017 ASCS National Tour points series.

Covington picked up his lone victory of the season aboard his Triple X/A-Rock Materials mount with the ASCS National Tour at Grey’s Harbor Raceway in Elma, Washington.

“The Elma win at Grey’s Harbor was very special to me,” stated Matt. “We had gone so long without a win but had been so close a few times. For me and Tyler and all the hard work, along with the ups and downs, it was good to breakthrough during the Fred Brownfield Memorial. I feel like we should have won a few more races, but luck didn’t always go our way and I couldn’t capitalize on some of the opportunities I was given. But at least we got the one win, considering the stout competition with the National Tour. But next year I’d really like to get more than one. My main focus now is just concentrating on our weaknesses and building on our team strengths so we can perform better in the 2018 season. We had consistency this year, which is good. But now we need to take that to the next level with more wins and be consistently in the top-5 with podiums instead of just top-10’s. Our goal going into next year is to finish higher in the points and compete for the championship.

“I got to give a huge shout out and Thank you to Tyler Tessemaker. There is nobody out there on the tour that works harder, and the car was fast and well prepared every time we hit the track” “I would also personally like to say Thank you to all of our sponsors and partners this year. We couldn’t go up and down the road and do this without them. I’m very hopeful and dedicated to being more successful next year to show my appreciation. With the weeks ahead I’d like to wish all my friends, family, and sponsors a Happy Thanksgiving and Holidays.”
