Herrera Posts Runner-Up Result in Sedalia for Sixth Podium of Season

Inside Line Promotions – SEDALIA, Mo. (April 18, 2017) – Johnny Herrera earned his sixth podium finish of the season last Saturday at Missouri State Fair Speedway, where he ended second during the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour event.

The action began with Herrera finishing where he started – second – in a heat race. That was good enough to make the feature redraw, in which Herrera pulled the No. 2 to start the main event on the outside of the front row.

“It always helps starting at the front,” he said. “We got the early led and set a good pace. We had a good lead. The track was getting slicker in turns three and four. I kept doing what I was doing. Sometimes being in second is a better view. Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) was moving around and the track got cleaned off in turn four lower than where I was running. He got beside me and by me.”

Herrera led the first 16 laps before dropping to second.

“We had a restart with about eight laps to go,” he said. “I slid him in turn one and he slid me in turns three and four. It was a good race the last few laps. I started moving around and found something a little lower and drove to his left rear coming to the white flag. We were close at the finish line. I barely got beat by half a car at the line.”

Herrera’s second-place result keeps him ranked second in the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour championship standings.

“It was disappointing when you lead a lot of that race, but we’re making gains on our program,” he said. “We need to get just a little better, but overall it’s not bad. We’ll just try to keep doing what we’re doing.”

Herrera is scheduled to return to competition this Friday and Saturday at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kan., for the Park City Cup/Air Capital Shootout with the NCRA and ASCS Red River Region.

In other news, Herrera is seeking a crew member for the remainder of this season. He is competing full time on the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour and travel is part of the role. Interested parties can email their qualifications and racing history to jherreraracing@aol.com.
