Inside Line Promotions – LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (Nov. 3, 2015) – Derek Hagar is busy rebuilding a race car this week after he flipped during the closing laps of Thursday’s Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour race at I-30 Speedway, where only one of the four scheduled races during the 28th annual COMP Cams Short Track Nationals was completed because of wet weather.

Hagar, who entered the event with 15 podium finishes in his previous 18 races, opened the night by charging from eighth to fourth place in a heat race on the fast track.

“We didn’t have anything to work with,” he said. “The race track was so heavy. I think they got five or six straight days of rain. It made it real hard to pass so I was stuck behind cars. On one of the last restarts I started going way high and shooting across the bottom. I passed a couple of cars to move up to fourth.”

That lined him up on the outside of the second row for a qualifier. Hagar finished fourth in the race to miss locking into the feature by only one position, which put him on the pole of a B Main.

“It was just heavy with no passing in the qualifier and we had some good cars in front of us,” he said. “Unless they screwed up we weren’t going to get by them. We made the car a lot better for the B Main.”

Hagar led the distance of the consolation race to transfer into the main event, which he started on the inside of the ninth row.

“I worked my way up to 10th and I was about getting ready to pull off the track with six laps to go, but we had a caution and I decided to stay out here,” he said. “We restarted and I stayed around 10th. Coming to the final lap or two another driver hit me in the left rear and it turned me sideways. It started flipping from there. It was just one of those deals. I guess it’s just racing.”

Hagar was credited with a 15th-place result following the wild wreck.

He is scheduled to compete with the USCS Series this Friday and Saturday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss., where he finished second earlier this season.
