Inside Line Promotions – KILGORE, Texas (Oct. 13, 2015) – Channin Tankersley had a great start to his night last Saturday at Lonestar Speedway.

Tankersley, who was driving for Bruce Griffith during the ASCS Red River Region event, advanced from fifth to second place during a heat race. That locked him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 1 to start the main event on the pole.

“The night went pretty good early,” he said. “We were fast right out of the box. We got a little lucky in the heat to restart third. I stayed with the leader, but it was real hard to pass. Second place was good enough to make the redraw.”

Unfortunately, Tankersley’s luck ran out while the drivers were doing the three-wide salute to the fans prior to the start of the main event.

“Right off the get-go when we fired the car off something didn’t feel right,” he said. “I lost power steering when we were doing the three wide. I figured if I could get in clean air I might be able to hold onto it.”

Tankersley did just that as he powered into the lead on the start.

“I led about the first eight or 10 laps,” he said. “I started getting tired where I couldn’t hold onto the wheel anymore. I was cruising pretty good, but it was getting harder and harder. I started slowing down a lot because I was having a hard time getting the car turned. About the time I was going to pull off Sam (Hafertepe Jr.) got around me.”

Tankersley exited the track approximately a third of the way through the main event. He was credited with a 19th-place result.

Tankersley is slated to drive for Griffith this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, for the 42nd annual Winter Nationals with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
