2014 Lucas Oil ASCS by the Numbers

TULSA, Okla. (December 4, 2014) As quickly as it began, the 2014 season for the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real came to a close on November 15 at the Cocopah Speedway in Yuma, Ariz.

In what came down to one of the tightest points battles in tour history, Jason Johnson picked up his fifth Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour Championship. Entering the final four nights of racing winless on the national scene, Johnson was 68 points removed in fifth. Putting together four nights with finishes in the top five, including a win, the season ended with Johnson 15 makers to the good. Among the factors that earned Johnson the championship was a series leading eight runner-ups among 10 podium finishes.

Deemed legal following a protest of the Cylinder Heads on the No. 41, Johnson's fifth championship also puts him atop the board as the first driver with more than four.

Jeff Swindell brought the Hammers Racing No. 94 home second in tour standings. Swindell's best finish against the National Tour included three wins among five trips to the podium. Leading the points going into the final night of competition, Brad Loyet's season ended with the Vacuworx No. 05 third in the final standings. Loyet led the way in podium appearances in 2014 with a dozen.

Winless in 2014, consistency was Johnny Herrera's craft with a dozen top fives' and is the fourth time in as many years the No. 45x has finished inside the top five in tour standings. Sam Hafertepe, Jr.'s season was one of ups and down as the Texas driver occupied every point's position in the top-ten by the lead at one point during the season. Settling for fifth, Sam tied for most season wins with four and including 9 podium finishes.

Seth Bergman's best points finish against the National Tour brought a pair of victories in 2014. Battling a roller coaster season, Tony Bruce, Jr. pulled off three victories to grab seventh in the final rundown. Matt Covington with a pair of wins, including the Jackson Nationals, was eighth.

Blake Hahn earned the 2014 Brodix Rookie of the year in ninth with Aaron Reutzel tenth. With engine woes taking the No. 87 out of competition on numerous occasions, Reutzel without a doubt found more speed than anyone in 2014 his first National Tour win at the I-30 Speedway quickly turning into four by season's end.

With the 2014 season in the books, officials with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series are hard at work preparing the 2015 lineup, which begins with the $10,000-to-win, Ronald Laney Memorial at Tampa's East Bay Raceway February 19-21, 2015. The complete scheduled will be released at the 2014 Performance Racing Industries Tradeshow in Indianapolis, Ind.
