Herrera wins ASCS Gulf South at Cotton Bowl

PAIGE, Texas (May 23, 2014) - The Griffith Truck and Equipment Gulf South Region kicked off their Memorial Day Weekend at the Cotton Bowl Speedway in Paige, Texas with Johnny Herrera topping the field.

Working past Travis Rilat in slower traffic, Herrera worked the cushion with ease to his second career Gulf South victory.

Lapped traffic also played into the hands of Aaron Reutzel who crossed second with Travis Rilat ending up third. Gulf South points leader, Channin Tankersley, came from eighth to grab fourth with Travis Elliot making up the top five.

Matt Covington was sixth with Tommy Bryant from sixteenth to seventh. Ray Allen Kulhanek crossed eighth from fourteenth with Kolt Walker and Brandon Hahn completing the top ten.

The Gulf South Region heads for the Shady Oaks Speedway in Goliad, Texas on Saturday, May 24, then the Golden Triangle Raceway Park on Sunday, May 25. For updates on the American Sprint Car Series, log onto http://www.ascsracing.com
