Johnson and Clauson top the Western World

Bryan Hulbert - Peoria, Arizona (November 17, 2012) Tire conservation was key to the success of the 45th FVP Western World Championships presented by Sands Chevrolet as Bryan Clauson and Wayne Johnson collected a combined $15,000.

Getting the jump on Jason Johnson from the pole, Brady Bacon pulled the Oil Field Equipment No. 99 to the race lead with Johnson in tow. Burning tires from the onset, the pair quickly distanced themselves with Bacon working into slower traffic.

Giving Johnson the opportunity for the pass, the narrow groove would allow Bacon to the advantage. At speed between a pair of slower cars, neither driver could gain an advantage until a bobble on the part of Brady Bacon sent the XXX Race Co. No. 99 out of the groove entering turn three, allowing Johnson to take the top spot on lap twenty-three.

Slowing for a caution with seven to go that saw Logan Forler on the hook, the race resumed with Johnson leading three laps before his Right-Rear tire gave out. Brady Bacon reassumed the lead for a single lap before suffering a similar fate and in doing so handed the race lead to Wayne Johnson.

With tire to spare, Johnson paced the field to a $10,000 victory ahead of the FVP No. 21 of Brian Brown. Making good use of the highline following the final restart, Tony Bruce Jr. ran to third with Kyle Hirst and twelfth starting Johnny Herrera making up the top five.

Christopher Bell crossed sixth with Danny Lasoski climbing from sixteenth to seventh. Jeff Swindell was eighth, Jayme Barnes ninth, and Gary Wright tenth after starting twentieth in his final Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV A-Feature.

Non-Qualifier races belonged to Jack Dover, Travis Rilat, and Lucas Wolfe while B-Main wins went to Justin Henderson and Joshua Hodges.

Winning the coin toss at the start of the night to determine inside/outside for the lock-in drivers Casey Shuman would wheel the Hockett No. 77 to the lead to start the night’s 25 lap A-Feature. Working the inside line to begin with, Shuman would surrender the lead on the fourth lap to the high riding Bryan Clauson.

Slowing for a caution on lap six for the No. 51 of R.J. Johnson, the race resumed with the field stuck to the cushion. Running into slower traffic within the first ten laps, Clauson rarely moved off the top groove as the rubber began going down.

Steadily moving away, Clauson would cross the finish line 4.155 seconds ahead of Casey Shuman for the $5,000 payday with Tracy Hines, Charles Davis Jr., and Josh Pelkey making up the top five. Mike Martin managed a sixth place run with Dave Darland improving from eleventh to seventh. Jerry Coons Jr., Mike Spencer, and Jon Stanbrough rounded out the top ten but was subsequently disqualified after it was confirmed that he has switched cars with car owner Shon Deskins prior to the A-Feature. Mike Bonneau would be scored tenth.

Non-Qualifier Heat races went to Shon Deskins, Kyle Hirst, and Josh Shipley with B-Main wins going to Kyle Hirst and Shane Cottle.
