Travis Rilat Back in ASCS Victory Lane

Bryan Hulbert - Las Cruces, New Mexico (November 10, 2012) For the first time since the accident that nearly claimed the life of Travis Rilat the Forney, Texas driver was almost magical working the high side of the Southern New Mexico Speedway en-route to victory behind the wheel of the Xtreme Oil Field Technology No. 39c.

Becoming the twenty-fifth different winner of 2012 with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV, Rilat was jubilant following his win, “I tell you what we’ve been fast all year. We have several race wins this year but it’s been awhile since we got one of these National Tour wins. I can’t thank Richard and Lana enough for giving me the opportunity to drive their car.”

Gridding the car fifth, Rilat would fall to seventh on the start. Slowing for a caution on lap two, the race resumed with the A-Rock Material No. 12m of Kyle McCutcheon showing the way. Taking off to a sizable advantage while Johnny Herrera raced into the runner up spot, the caution would again wave on lap six; just as slower traffic was in the leaders’ sight.

Taking the green, Herrera would dive low on McCutcheon for the lead but would be unable to make the pass as the Alamogordo, New Mexico driver bolted back into the top spot. Pushing back into slower traffic, a wrong move while working under a slower car would send the No. 12m spinning to a stop.

Handing the lead to Johnny Herrera with seventeen laps complete, the MVT No. 45x would have to contend with the hard charging Travis Rilat. Utilizing the cushion, Rilat capitalized on a restart with twelve laps complete to begin working from sixth to third before the caution waved for McCutcheon.

Working side by side with Herrera on the restart, the No. 39c grabbed the point on lap eighteen; pulling away to the win despite working in and out of slower traffic. Herrera would settle for the runner up spot with Wayne Johnson charging from eighth to complete the podium. Jason Johnson was fourth with Dustin Morgan capping off his weekend with a top five finish. Logan Forler was sixth with Kyle Hirst, Brady Bacon, Kraig Kinser, and Jack Dover making up the top ten.

The night also featured a charity event for the March of Dimes and High Heels for High Hopes that had a Driver’s Auction as the highlight of the night’s fund raising with $12,850 raised by fans bidding on the top ten starters in the night 30 lap A-Feature. The winning bidder was awarded with half of the money raised, totaling $6,425 with the other half plus other monies raised donated to the March of Dimes.

B-Feature winners included John Carney II and Gary Wright.

Heat Race wins belonged to Johnny Herrera, Wayne Johnson, Seth Bergman, Jason Johnson, Jack Dover, and Matt Covington.

The Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV end out the 2012 season this coming week with the 45th FVP Western World Championships presented by Sands Chevrolet. The three day event is scheduled for November 15th, 16th, and 17th at the Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona.
