Tankersley Tops second leg of Gulf South tripleheader with Gator score!

Cody Morris, Willis, Texas (5-25-2012) - The Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region entered the Gator Motorplex for the second time this season, this featuring the second leg of a Memorial Holiday Weekend tripleheader of ASCS Gulf South action (Craig Johnson photo).

Channin Tankersley battled up from third to complete the winning pass of Scottie McDonald on the 16th circuit of the 25 lap main event to make the young Highlands, Texas native the ninth different winner in 11 ASCS Gulf South events.

McDonald held on for runner up honors with Michael McNeil, defending champ and point leader Ray Allen Kulhanek, and Friday night winner Tommy Bryant completing the top five finishing order. Gulf South veteran Greg Rilat took Hard Charger honors crossing 8 positions better than he started with a 6th place finish. The 25 lap main event suffered stoppages on lap 14 and lap 19, with each caution betraying a further duo of slowdowns on the ensuing restarts.

Ray Allen Kulhanek, Michael McNeil, and Tommy Bryant grabbed heat race wins over the 23 car field, with Bruce Crockett taking the lead transfer in the night’s sole 12 lap B Feature.

The Griffith Truck & Equipment ASCS Gulf South Region concludes their Memorial Day Weekend triple header with a Sunday night stop at Corpus Christi’s South Texas Speedway. Tommy Bryant and Channin Tankersley will each have a shot at a $500 bonus if they can achieve their second win of the three race set.
