Steve King Memorial highlights weekend for Lucas Oil ASCS

Steve King Memorial highlights weekend for Lucas Oil ASCS

"It is worth remembering that the time of greatest gain in terms of wisdom and inner strength is often that of greatest difficulty." - Dalai Lama

Tulsa, Oklahoma (May 21, 2012) It was on a summer night in August 2006 the life of Steve King was cut short in a crash that according to witnesses was among the hardest hits they had ever seen but out of the tears that would fall would come a foundation and race that truly matched the character of Steve King.

In honor of his memory, the Steve King Memorial came to pass at the Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kansas; Steve’s hometown. Along with a race in his honor, the Steve King Foundation was established to, according to stevekingfoundation.org, “provide assistance to race car drivers, pit crew members, racing officials and track operations personnel who are involved in dirt track racing and are seriously ill, severely injured or killed.”

Entering its fourth year, the Steve King Memorial will take place Memorial Day Weekend with races scheduled for Saturday May 26th and Sunday May 27th at the Great American Dirt Track in Jetmore, Kansas.

Of the list of drivers who have won preliminary and finale events during the Steve King Memorial, two of them have been directly helped by the Steve King Foundation. Travis Rilat who took the first prelim victory in 2009 and the defending Steve King Memorial champion Jack Dover have both received assistance from the Steve King Foundation. Several drivers with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV have also received help from the Steve King Foundation including current ASCS points leader Wayne Johnson. Other ASCS drivers include Zach Chappell, Dustin Morgan, and Danny Wood.

This weekend’s races will also include several events around the Jetmore area. A full list of events can be downloaded at http://www.tbjpromotions.com/downloads/8075/fi8075_2856.pdf. The Open Wheel Golf Tournament will be held on Sunday morning and is open to all. Full details are available at http://www.tbjpromotions.com/downloads/8075/fi8075_2856.pdf.

Past Champions of the Steve King Memorial include: Jack Dover (2009, 2011), and Brady Bacon (2010).
